HOW TO SHIP A BIKE ONCE I SELL IT?
by Buzz Walneck
November 2004 Walneck's Classic Cycle Trader

"CAN I DELIVER IT? Can they come some morning when I'm going to work and they arrive and want to load it up? Sounds pretty convenient to me.

About 12 years ago, I happened to call a local agent for ALLIED VAN LINES and the salesman thought he could get me a good deal for a motorcycle. He did and I used him again and again. I think it was the first time they tried it without the bike being in a crate.

About two years later, another division called FEDERAL ALLIED took this seriously. They are headquartered in Peoria, Illinois, but they go EVERYWHERE in the States.

Picture the famous orange Allied vehicle; then picture a trailer traveling down the interstate filled with LOTS OF MOTORCYCLES.

THE STAR OF THIS EFFORT IS JACKIE TAYLOR. Later Jennifer joined this staff and now there are several more. ALL THEY DO IS MOTORCYCLES! Rates through this motorcycle group are less than through the furniture divisions. The motorcycles are un-crated and it works great.

I believe that last year was the first shipment. *** Now it has grown to MORE THAN 10,000 MOTORCYCLES. Going on a vacation and you want your bike but do not have or know how to back up a rented trailer? Going to Daytona, Sturgis, Colorado? You have it down for you.

HOW? Take your bike to an Allied agent who handles motorcycles (check first with your local Federal Allied). Jackie, Jennifer or someone else on the staff will help you. Your bike must have a battery cable disconnected and the gas tank drained. IT'S EASY AND THAT'S IT!

For a reasonable price they can pick it up at your home when you sell it or when you go on vacation and have it brought back when you return.

I have personally used them over 500 times and will continue to do so. CALL AT 1-800-747-4100, EXT. 229 FOR JENNIFER, OR EXT. 217 FOR JACKIE, but most readers have already called them a few times. MENTION WALNECKS' WHEN YOU DO.

Buzz"
